This is a nice box. I like the tight lines that it leaves as opposted to the standard Stanley’s or whatever classic brand box we all know. The only downside that I find with this box is the size of it. It is very thick and takes up premium space in my toolbelt. I have attached photos comparing this box to my Stanley (bostich) box as well as photos of the two chalk lines. Black lines are the Tajima with Tajima black dye and the blue lines are Stanley with blue Stanley chalk. I do recommend this product, I only wish it weren’t so bulky.

Chalk box has always been one of my favorite tools, a rock and a string that has been around since ancient times and is perfectly accurate all the time. Tajima refines the rock and a string concept into a very fine product. A very rugged aluminum case holds up to the rigors of daily job site use, the gear train rewind retracts the string very quickly and a very well designed and rugged hook works exceptionally well. Couple that with the fine, yet strong string and the very fine chalk (which you must use for this product) you get very fine, yet very visible lines. The Tajima is a great upgrade from the rather unrefined Straitline brand chalk box.

The best chalk line I’ve used, June 4, 2016

I love the quality of this chalk line, it’s solid and it fits comfortably in my hand. The folding arm is nice too. It leaves a solid, clean, vibrant line when using Tajima’s brand of fine chalk. The lock is a nice feature, holds the line in so it doesn’t get tangled or leave chalk in your bags. One thing I’ve notice after 3 months of daily use that might be helpful to a new user: If I pull the line tight like with standard chalk lines, it leaves a line that isn’t as clean or completely solid. If I just put a little tension on it and snap it about a couple inches off the surface, it leaves a super clean, solid line. Only thing I don’t like is how much chalk it dumps out when pulling the line out. Maybe I overfilled it, but it’s had 3 months of use and still dumps out a ton of chalk.
