First of all, the title is EXTREMELY CUTE! Best title ever. The book has terrific art and a heartening story. The girl in the tutu with the welding mask was my favorite picture, but I also loved the powerful way the machinery was portrayed, how it seemed to move forcefully out of the landscape: the tractor, the helicopter, the crane, all making the animals who worked the machinery look that much smaller but also that much more competent and heroic. The expressions on the animals’ faces are delightful. It’s a charming book and has made a wonderful gift. I also am a fan of some of David Gordon’s other books: The Three Little Rigs; Hansel and Diesel; The Ugly Truckling; Smitten.

Great Book, Beware the Stupid, October 12, 2016

This book is very cute and I love the dichotomy. I got this book for my 3 year old who loves all things cute and construction. What I didn’t like is the use of the word “stupid”. I’m just not ready to introduce that word yet. It’s easy to jump over the word while I’m reading which is good, but I like to point at the words while I’m reading (teaching her word recognition) and she knows somethings up when I skip a word.
