Classic reference work for invention minded tinkerers. Illustrations and descriptions from gear mechanisms to rope knots and types of ship sail riggings, etc. As a (now retired) product designer and inventor (two US Patents) I used to flip through the book just to move my mind’s eye through possibilities when thinking about how to accomplish a particular mechanical requirement. Never literally used anything listed but it helped to open up the imagination about various possibilities. On the other hand there certainly would be no shame in borrowing something verbatim if it filled the bill. Why reinvent the wheel.
