Just remember the ends of the log dry faster than the center, so for accurate readings split and check in middle of the log.
Also remember this is a gage, the probes are not meant to be pounded into or forced into the wood.
It is proving to be invaluable at the local home store to find those elusive straight and dry 2×4’s.
