This text has many strong illustrations accompanied with good photography and neat tables. The process of construction is photographed in addition to illustrated, which can only help to create a more complete idea. The information is presented at a beginner level with some complexity added to create a more specific understanding of structure and material. For a student, this book is a good step toward understanding how a structure is assembled.

The book could be useful but I did not learn anything from it that I need. It was written by PHd’s with little or know field experience. This must have appealed to the instructor who had a PHd and little or no field experience. The material was technically correct but mostly trivial. I gave it away when the course was finished.

I had to buy this product for an architecture class my sophmore year. It really breaks down the basics of architectural construction. Even though I bought it as a sophmore, I foresee myself reading it throughout my career, especially as I take my ARE exams.
