This is a great product if you want to understand how screws work and how they can help in various projects.

Assembly Mistake on the First Try, March 3, 2014

I got three of the Engino sets for my grandsons including this one. They haven’t built anything yet, but all of the parts were supplied correctly, along with 4 extras of the small, easily-lost parts. I’ll finish the review once they have built some of the projects.

To assess the level of difficulty, I assembled the flagship project depicted on the box — the lifting platform. The assembly directions aren’t too bad, but sometimes are out of sequence, requiring minor disassembly of previous groups.

The worst mistake made, showing the danger of using a CAD drawing instead of a photograph, is in the lower side rails seen on the box. The two sliding parts are shown clocked at the same angle, allowing the side snap shown to attach them to the rest of the base. Unfortunately, the left part slides into the right part ONLY at a 45 degree angle, as correctly shown on the “Cams and Cranks” main project. Thus they cannot be side-snapped as shown. There are enough small parts left to correct the error, but a mistake this large in the first project built does not raise my confidence that the instructions won’t be frustrating for my grandsons. [Update: I used wire cutters to clip off part of the guide on the end of the slider. It now fits flat or at 45 degrees.]

More to come when they try it themselves.

“Engino Mechanical Set – Screws”: Thank you for your quality. Grandson loves all Engino. Keep making more sets, please. Perhaps had play people?
