Nice for the money, few changes needed, March 17, 2013

I bought this coop (not on Amazon) as a brooder/hospital/isolation coop, as this isn’t really big enough for 6 chickens.
    The Bad:
It does not have a door over the chicken’s entry (pop door) and there is no cross ventilation. The roof is also screwed down onto the structure, making access to the coop a pain in the back. Also, the Ramp is screwed down with wood screws, making removal a little troublesome for cleaning.
    The Good:
Easily put together and seems pretty solid. It looks pretty good too. 6 Chicks (4 weeks old as of this writing) love it.

    What I would/will change:
    Add cross ventilation
    Add Pop door
Add piano hinge and hasp to roof for easier access to inside of coop.
Change method for securing chicken ramp.

The goods- nice size for 4 to 5 hens. I wouldn’t put more unless they’re Bantams. It went together easily and seems sturdy. It looks attractive in my backyard and there’s multiple doors in it to make for easy cleaning.

The bads- There’s no door for the coop so your hens won’t be completely secure at night. I will be putting in my own door but since the door to access the run is across the coop from the ramp it’s still going to be awkward opening and closing it at dawn and dusk. Getting in the coop to do anything is a bit uncomfortable even for a smaller person but that’s what I’ll be doing since I feel this needs a door in order to be secure for my hens. A few pieces of wood came split which was another thing I didn’t like about this coop. The last thing that I’ll be fixing with this coop though and the thing I think is also pretty important is that there’s no ventilation. Chickens have tiny lungs and any harsh smells such as their own urine during the night can damage their lungs without ventilation. Maybe this was why the company chose not to add a door. If that’s the case they should have considered figuring out how to get ventilation in anyway. One opening isn’t ventilation. It’s an opening. I’m putting in cross ventilation in it. One final thing to consider- you’ll be adjusting the roosting bars inside the coop. The 3rd roosting bar is in the run and is actually more like a support bracket. But the two inside the coop are an inch off the pan. My hens are essentially sitting in the paper shavings while they roost. It’s not ideal.

Overall I like the look of the coop and with some alterations it’s going to be great. With some minor changes from the company though it could have been great already.

After many attempts I finally found a coop that I love. The only issue I have is that there is not door on the hen house, so I had to build my own. Otherwise, very nice little coop.
